Project Inspiration: Lightning Wrap

What’s a knitter to do when the temperature starts rising? Rather than packing away the needles for the season, why not cast on for a lightweight, fun-to-knit pattern which can accompany you on summer outings!

The Lightning Wrap by Kyoko Nakayoshi uses simple short rows to create a striking wrap you’ll use year-round! It’s a great project for summer vacations, a day at the beach, or your local knit night. All you have to do is pick your favorite color combination in Spud & Chloë Fine!

Here, it’s shown in Orangutan as the main color and Goldfish as the contrast color:

If you’d prefer to knit your wrap in a different color scheme than pictured, we have endless possibilities from our palette of 25 color options! You could dive in with a watery theme, using Dolphin as the main color (left) and Snorkel as the contrast color (right) – or even vice versa!

For an earthier palette, Green Bean (left) and Glow Worm (right) would also be a lovely choice!

If you’re feeling bold, here are some color combos which really pack a punch. First, Hippo (left) and Calypso (right) combine a neutral grey with a bright pop of color:

Or you could be inspired by the summery hues of watermelon, pairing Sassafras (left) with Lizard (right):

Finally, you can’t go wrong with black & white! Create a graphic piece you can wear just about anywhere with Black Pepper (left) and Popcorn (right):

We can’t wait to see your creative color choices over on Ravelry!

Back from TNNA!

photo 12_booth.jpg

We’ve just returned from one of the biggest industry showcases of the year, the TNNA Summer Trade Show. This is where we put our best foot forward while yarn store owners from around the country (and even the globe!) come to shop. You can see our newest additions to the Spud & Chloë pattern catalog in the above photo; they were very well-received by everyone who stopped by our booth!

There was also some buzz for our newest free patterns in Spud & Chloë Sweater (L-R): the Manly Fingerless Gloves by Sylvia Häger, the Easy Color Blanket by Karen Rolstad, and the Collegiate Hat by Wendy Bernard. You can even spot one of these patterns in the above photo of our TNNA booth – can you guess which one?

Designer and author Wendy Bernard joined us in our TNNA booth on Saturday to sign copies of her newest book, Up, Down, All-Around! It was very exciting to have a celebrity in our midst, and we look forward to sharing more about her new book over on the Blue Sky Alpacas website!

Outer Update!

Brights, braids and big hair?

Libby makes Outer look great!

This amazing wig by one of our designers, Cheryl Nelson, is made using Spud & Chloë Outer in Rocket (7211). Libby, our model, rocks this look! Soon, models will be strutting the look on the TNNA catwalk!

It’s going to be so extreme!

The four new colors of Spud & Chloë Outer

First, we have Fearless (7218)! A bright, bold yellow. A shade of acidic pear, this is my absolute favorite. I have big plans in this color, just you wait and see!

Next up is Buoy (7219)! An intense, punchy orange. Like the perfect shade of a slightly faded life jacket. Remember when we discussed the 2012 color of the year Tangerine Tango? It was an excellent point of inspiration.

Then we have Sugar Plum (7221)! This is a complex, deep and rich plum. Moody and brooding like gray. Regal like a jewel tone. This color will surprise you in the best way possible. We just know you are going to love it.

Last, but not least…Rhino (7220)! This gray is silvery and floaty. Light enough to look like a little slice of perfection when combined with the other colors of the Outer palette, but still a color strong enough to stand on its own. We want to put it with everything!

New Outer Designs

Are you already thinking of projects to make with the new colors? The whole Spud & Chloë gang is!

Just to let you know, we have new Outer patterns too! To whet your appetite we have The Wendy Sweater, the already released and free Dogwood Set, and Situpons!

The new Outer colors and patterns in the awesomesauce Spud & Chloë Fall 2012 Collection will be available at your favorite LYS by the end of June!

Take care Pals!

Esther's Tunic by Kristen Tendyke

A casual, fun knit Esther’s Tunic has minimal shaping and is knit all in one piece.

Great for layering, this tunic can stand alone as a tank or be worn with a jacket or gauzy peasant top.

Knit in Spud & Chloë Sweater, this tunic is inspired by the maillots of yesteryear.

It’s easy to see on these bathing beauties where the vintage-inspired Esther’s Tunic began.
