CAL Recap: Dino Love!

Last month, we co-hosted a Crochet-along with FreshStitches in the Friends of Spud and Chloë Ravelry group! Participants chose their favorite colors of Sweater yarn to create their own adorable dino friend using the Spikey the Stegosaurus pattern by Stacey Trock. CAL participants showcased their creativity through their choice of yarn colors, photos, and modifications – and some quick stitchers even made multiple dinosaurs during the course of our CAL!

Our prize winners were chosen at random my putting everyone’s name into a hat, and our lucky winners were nutmegknitter and amchart!

Top: Nutmegknitter’s project in Barn and Beluga Sweater
Bottom: Amchart’s project in Firefly and Lilac Sweater

While we’d love to share every single finished project shared here in our group, we’ll just highlight a few unique entries to inspire you to pick up your hook and get stitching! First, LittlePandCompany shared a creative photo of her WIP, which was apparently unearthed recently on an archeological dig! The resulting dinosaur is a rather handsome fellow in Jellybean and Pollen Sweater yarn.

Alkasmelsah used buttons instead of safety eyes to put a unique spin on both of her finished dinosaurs. She chose two bold color combinations to create her stripey Stegos in Sweater: Barn and Pollen (top) and Moonlight and Lifejacket (bottom):

Most of our CAL participants had never crocheted with our Sweater yarn before, and we were pleased to hear a lot of praise as finished photos were posted! We look forward to seeing more crochet creations shared in our group; if you’re looking for a quick project, be sure to add Spikey the Stegosaurus to your queue!

For those of you who don’t crochet, don’t worry! We’ve got an exciting knit-along in store for you this fall, and we’ll be announcing the details soon on the Spud Says blog. Stay tuned!

Knits for Little Ones

Lots of adorable patterns for babies and kids have been published recently using Spud & Chloë yarns; they’re fun, fast projects for summertime stitching, and once autumn rolls around, you’ll be glad you spent your summer knitting for little ones (that way you can make yourself a sweater)!

We’ve spied a sweet eBook on Ravelry called the Rainbow Collection by Jessica M. Anderson. It includes 3 patterns using our Sweater yarn in an array of rainbow hues: the Rainbow Baby Hat, the Rainbow Baby Sleeper, and Over the Rainbow Bridge.

The Autumn 2014 issue of Creative Knitting Magazine features an adorable design for girls: Eme’s Dress by Kathy Wesley is knit with three colors of Sweater and has a fun ruffle detail at the hem!

Speaking of fun projects for kids, we’ve been seeing some adorable finished dinosaurs from our Crochet-along happening this month in our Ravelry Group! There is still plenty of time to join in the fun, as most participants have finished their project in less than a week. Click here to find out how you can be eligible for one of three great prizes when you post your finished project using Stacey Trock’s new crochet pattern, Spikey the Stegosaurus!
