So, how did it go? Does your second Picot Pattern mirror the first?

It is such a special little detail, it really elevates the scarf both in terms of appearance and technique.

I can already tell this is going to be my go-to summer garment. Any time a location is overly air-conditioned, when the occasion calls for being a bit more dressed up, and for sure whenever a scarf will pull together an outfit with a chic pop of color.

These three colors are going to look great with pretty much my whole wardrobe.

Step Six is coming soon, but I think it might be the step that takes the longest. Simply because the rows are long and the lace repeat is fairly long as well.

It is straightforward lace though, something you can absolutely execute. However, with double yarn overs and knit three stitches together be sure to use your lifelines.

Consider Lace Pattern A a warmup for Lace Pattern B. Lifelines are your friend.

How’s it going for you Pals? If you have in progress pictures, we’d love to see them over in the Ravelry group.

Baby knitting season is upon us. It seems everyone the Gang knows is knitting or working on a crochet project for baby.

Who could blame them? You get to craft for an adorable, loveable little person and what could be more precious for that person than to wrap them in woolie warmth.

Photo © Dorian Kershner

This is the Modern Log Cabin in Spud & Chloë Sweater. The designer, Dorian Kershner was so inspired by Spud & Chloë in her shop, Wooly Monmouth, that she created this blanket.

With ease in mind, this blanket features seed stitch, stockinette stitch, and is a great way to practice picking up stitches and utilize many fun colors from the Sweater palette.

(We heard Wooly Monmouth has kits too! If you are so inclined I bet Dorian would love it if you gave her shop a call!).

Photo © Ellen Gormley

Perhaps, you would rather crochet a blankie. Making each individual motif does give blankie-making a big dose of portability.

The Trillions of Triangles afghan by Ellen Gormley in her book Go Crochet! Afghan Design Workbook is really unique. It is hooked with Spud & Chloë Sweater as well.

This motif looks both fun and interesting; since each motif is the same this would work up as a sophisticated blankie.

Photo © Heirloom Stitches

Last, but not least we feature another winning binky in Sweater. The Baby Babar by Donna Higgins is adorable.

Garter stitch and eyelets blend with stockinette stitch sections to create a lovely ruched effect. This binky will have a timeless feel, no matter the color palette you chose.

So, which are you making at your house? Is it a blanket, a blankie, or a binky?

Happy Knitting and Crocheting for the little ones Spud & Chloë Pals!

This is a nice, quick step. After Rows 1 to 9 of the lace pattern are complete, it is time to change colors.

This scarf has been worked in Bumble Bee (7811) and I’m now switching to Shitake (7814). I have worked Row One of the Picot Pattern.

It is important, even if you haven’t been using lifelines to add one after Row 1 as well as to increase one stitch.

Detail shot showing the addition of a lifeline.

You will be repeating the Picot Pattern, Rows 1 to 12 and will thus need to knit Row 11 together with Row 1.

Having this lifeline will make things super simple later on. Just keep knitting the Picot Pattern and I’ll be back with an update soon.

Isn’t this a cool edge treatment? Can you believe what a cool lace stitch pattern the first section is? I just love it!

Be sure to see me over on Ravelry with problems, success stories, questions and best of all, pictures of your work in process.

Take care Pals!

Hi Pals. We would just like apologize to for the glitch the Spud & Chloë Blog experienced the last few posts. Certainly, we had no intention of emailing the same posts repeatedly. We are really sorry if you felt these emails were a nuisance and please know we are doing everything we can to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Thank you.

Now onto the fun of the Trifecta Knitalong!

This section of Trifecta is nice and easy. Long, beautiful rows of lace knitting.

One special note, start with Row 2!

Work Row 2 to Row 20, and then Row 1 to Row 9. The results are lovely.

Lace Section One for the Trifecta Scarf.

This is such a cool looking lace stitch. I am just in love with the results.

However, these are long rows and to make an error could be really discouraging, if it wasn’t for lifelines.

Another great video from our friends at Webs. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=u60sc8oL0Zc)

This trick will prevent any major frogging from happening. I would advise to do a lifeline in this pattern every 6 rows or so, depending on how confident you feel with knitting lace.

Also, I like to add lifelines after working the wrong side row in a pattern like this. Most wrong side rows in the pattern are purl the whole way across. It’s nice and easy to pick up a whole row of purls versus knits, yarnovers, and decreases.

How are you all doing? What do you think of this lace section? Were the lifelines helpful?

Thanks for knitting along with me Pals! I’m having so much fun!

Take care!

After our cast-on, it’s time to work the Picot Pattern stitch.

The first ten rows are very straightforward. After you complete row 10, be sure to undo your provisional cast on and place all your stitches on a spare needle.

This step is important because you are about to create a picot hem, by knitting row 11 together with row 1.

After you finish working row 11 with row 1 your beautiful picot hem will be complete.

The Picot Edge from the right side of the fabric.

For row 12 you simply purl across the fabric, just be sure to decrease one stitch so that the lace pattern has the appropriate number of stitches.

The Picot Edge from the wrong side of the fabric, note the purl ridge.

Well, Spud & Chloë Pals, that is all for this step. Next week we will tackle the first lace pattern as well as inserting lifelines into our lace.

How did creating the picot hem go? This technique results in such a polished edge that it makes the provisional cast-on even more worthwhile.

Be sure to see me in the Spud & Chloë group on Ravelry if you run into any problems.

Happy Knitting-along Pals!

Hi Pals! Today is the first official day of the Spud & Chloë Trifecta Knitalong! Are you excited? We are excited!

A quick update, the Trifecta does have errata in case you purchased your pattern when it was first published in 2009. The scarf takes two hanks of colors A, B and C not as previously stated only one. So sorry for this inconvenience.

The first step to tackle for this project is the provisional cast-on. Perhaps you are an old pro when it comes to this technique, but it can be a bit fiddly until you have practiced it.

It truly is a worthwhile skill to add to your repertoire. For example, if you have long arms or a long torso and frequently knit sweaters from the bottom-up you may have experienced a situation where pieces of the garment aren’t quite long enough.

With the provisional cast-on this issue is eliminated. If the sweater body or sleeves end up too short, simply unravel and work down to the appropriate length. An excellent knitting skill to have.

This is an excellent video on how to do a provisional cast-on. There are a few different ways to do a provisional cast-on, but using the crochet hook is my preferred method.

This video even has some of the best tips for successfully executing this type of cast-on.

Chains to mark the start of the cast-on.

It is very important to chain a few stitches prior to stitching around the needle. It makes undoing the cast-on vastly easier later on.

As you can see, the provisional cast-on was worked in Calypso (7806) and the first row in Bumble Bee (7811) is complete.

Another helpful trick is adding a knot or two to the tail of the provisional cast-on. This way you will know “which end KNOT to pull out.” Very clever!

Here is how my Trifecta looks so far. Just the provisional cast-on and one row are complete.

Knit in Spud & Chloë Fine.

How did you do? Is the provisional cast-on intimidating or easier than you expected? Be sure to find me with any questions over in the Friends of Spud & Chloë Group on Ravelry.

We’ll take this part slow, but I’ll be back shortly with the next part of the process. Good luck and we’ll stick together!

Take care Pals!

Re-entry into the work week can certainly be painful. It might make you feel a bit blue. Or perhaps as though you are having “just another manic Monday.” We only hope that “somebody doesn’t have a case of the Mondays.”

And here we are with a snappy, free pattern, because everyone deserves a great Monday.

Designed by Thea Colman

This set is designed in Spud & Chloë Sweater and features a super easy slip stitch colorwork design. This type of colorwork, is literally as easy as slipping stitches instead of knitting them. If you can knit, purl, and knit in the round, you can make the Blue Monday Set.

You can download the Blue Monday Set right here.

Thanks Thea for such a fun and cute set.

Happy Monday Spud & Chloë Pals. We hope we made re-entry a wee bit easier.
