Hi Spud & Chloë Friends,
I am back this morning with a new free pattern for you. My daughter, TC (The Collector), designed this hat from scratch and I knit it up for her. She picked every detail and color. TC simply loves her new hat and wears it night and day, indoors and outdoors. It is pretty cute to see someone enjoy a handknit like this.
Hopefully you will enjoy your version of TC’s Cozy Hat, too!

Here is some information you might like to know about this quick and simple earflap hat:
Finished measurement: 20-inch circumference
Note: TC’s head measures 21 ½-inches. The hat will fit would fit a 19-21 ½-inch head circumference. The hat has a snug fit.
Yarn: Spud & Chloë Outer (65% superwash wool, 35% organic cotton; 100 grams/60 yards), 1 skein each in Flannel #7201, Bayou #7207 and Soapstone #7200
Needles: US size 15 sixteen-inch circular and set of 4 double-pointed needles or size to obtain gauge
Gauge: 2 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch

The hat is knit and then the earflaps are picked up and knit down from the cast on edge.

The trim is braided separately and sewn on. The finished effect is wonderful.
Enjoy!

AGAIN, Thank you SO much for this wonderful hat pattern. I can’t wait to get started knitting it. We woke up to 7″ of snow. Perfect hat for this weather.
Thanks, Susan! I’ll be casting on the first of two for this one this week–can’t wait. You rock!
Thank you Susan, This is just what is needed in all this snow!

I bought the yarn for this last Saturday and am ready to cast on for the Olympics! Thanks for the pattern!
Very cute hat! How much yarn would I need if I want to do it in one color, not striped? It’s really cute striped, but I’m pretty sure the intended recipient would rather have a plain one.
I love this!!! Looks like it will be a fast knit
Very cute pattern.
I love the hat..will get started soon

Can not open the free hat pattern.
I tried opening the free pattern I am unable to. help. love this pattern.
I love this hat!!! I’m going to make one for my daughter.
And – I’m even more excited to see the fabric on the chair…I designed it!! I love stumbling across things like that!
I want to make this hat but at the end of the pattern for the ties it says to work in i-cord for 7 ins. what is an i-cord. I have never heard of this. Thank you for your help with this and for the pattern.
If you look up i-cord on youtube or google it you will find lots of videos and tutorials on how to make it. You have 2 dpns. You cast on the number of stitches in the pattern and knit, don’t turn the needle, slide the stitches to the other end of the dpn, and knit the stitches. repeat this until you have the length you need. Bind off.
Hi – I am a new knitter, and this was my most ambitious project yet. I am SO happy with how it turned out, but my ear flaps are curling out. Do you have any advice for how to fix that? I am thinking of blocking it, but it’s a little hard to figure out how. I haven’t done the braided border yet. Maybe that helps? Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks for a great pattern.
blocking will help and the braid will help:)
Hi – I can’t seem to get a pattern for the hat. What stiches and pattern is it? Im looking forward to making one but not sure how to start it? Thanks!
